PARENTS AND CHILDREN
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umama (God be pleased with him) that a person asked the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon Him):
“O Messenger of Allah (PBUH), what are the rights of parents over their children?”
He (Peace be upon Him) said, “Those are your Paradise and Hell.” (Ibn Majah)
Parents are the greatest blessing in this universe for a human being. Their compassion, love, and service to their children are pure and selfless.
Particularly, mothers hold an eminent status.
He (Peace be upon Him) said: “Remain stuck with the feet of your mother, for there is Paradise.” (Ibn Majah)
Hazrat Abu Darda narrated that I heard the Prophet (PBUH) say: “Father is one of the best gates of Paradise. So if you wish, protect this gate, or if you wish, lose it.” (Ibn Majah)
The fundamental right of children over their parents is that they are raised with lawful sustenance because children raised with unlawful sustenance can become disobedient to Allah and His Messenger (PBUH), insolent, and a means of punishment for their parents.
Children also have the right over parents to give a proper environment for their children’s religious and spiritual training, along with their worldly education.
Most of the parents only focus on worldly education and completely ignore religious education and training, which is why today’s young generation is ignorant of the teachings of Islam, disobedient to their parents, alienated from following their ancestors, and busy imitating others in appearance and character.
- The pleasure of Allah is hidden in the lawful pleasure of parents.
- Serving and respecting elders is a sign of friendship with Allah.
- Old parents are a blessing and a bounty for their children, not a burden.
- The mutual relationship between parents plays an important role in the upbringing of children.
- Excessive coercion or freedom of children is a cause of destruction.
- Ignoring the advice of wise and enlightened children is an injustice.
- Treating children as friends and advisors is a source of love and harmony.
- Children must respect and serve their parents.
- Parents must give their children religious and worldly education, as far as possible.
- The parents of noble children are the Alexander of destiny.
- Obedience to parents who become hurdles in the path of truth is not obligatory.
- Virtuous children are the means of salvation for parents.
- Hurting the feelings of parents is the pathway to hell.
- Parents, education, and society play an important role in the upbringing of children.
- Both the prayers and curses of parents for their children are answered.
- The sound upbringing of children can lead to the salvation of parents.
- The children must convince transgressing parents with love, service, and wisdom.
